My Rurouni Kenshin Weekend

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Here's a snap on how to describe my weekend:

The boyfriend and I watched the Rurouni Kenshin live action movie, which is a big deal especially do RRK DHFs (that's die-hard fan) like me.

To be honest, I enjoyed the movie. But could not help feeling that a huge sacrilege was done to the series.

The key word is: MASH UP.

I have no issues with the choice for casting, it WAS the director's call. But to actually merge characters from different arcs of the series:

- the Battousai impostor from the first 5 episodes
- Jin'eh
- Kanryuu's Opium den
- Saitou's appearance

I know that you shouldn't expect the movie to follow every last detail to the letter, but seriously. I really do not undestand why they had to take out Aoshi Shinomori's character which is a key element to the Kanryuu arc. No, I'm not saying this because I'm a massive Shinomori fan girl. The Kanryuu arc where Aoshi and Kenshin duels in the observatory where Megumi was held prisoner sets the tone why Aoshi wanted to best Kenshin eventually in the Shishio arc.

Speaking of the Shishio arc, during the scene where Kenshin duels "Hannya" (this isn't actually made official if he was indeed Hannya, but the mask was insinuating so) inside one of Kanryuu's libraries in his estate seems like a nod towards the infamous duel in the aforementioned arc.

All in all, it was an OK movie. Kaoru's long-ass monologues bordered on annoying, but that's how she rolls even during the series. I LOVED the fight scenes. When Kenshin first said "oro?", that was FUCKING PRICELESS. But the scene-stealer definitely has to be when Saitou assumed the Gatotsu stance.

If they came out with a DVD, I'm not sure if I'd get one or just wait for it to be uploaded in the torrents. I do love the soundtrack though.

After the movie, we decided to walk around. This is only my third time going to the Mall of Asia, and it's so damn big I seriously recommend wearing flip-flops or your comfiest ballet flats (oh, and please don't forget to wear foot socks). Anyway, we decided to go on the MoA Eye which is our attempt at the London Eye, only much smaller.

To be honest, it was my first time to get on a Ferris Wheel. And I didn't think I'd have a very light panic attack when we reached the highest point. Anyhow, since it was night time, here are some views that we were able to take pictures of since our gondola's windows were foggy. Nope, the boyfriend and I didn't make out HAHA. We'd try to go again just in time to catch the infamous Manila Bay sunset.

Manila Bay is the dark right side of the picture and that's Roxas Boulevard.

A VIP gondola costs Php250/head and they give you a pair of paper binoculars and you get to have your picture taken. Thinking of saving my pair until the next trip since they weren't used the first time.

Harry Potter Charm Bracelet

I just want to gloat for a wee bit. Look at what the boyfriend got me for my birthday. :D

I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan since I purchased a paperback copy of The Sorcerer's Stone for only Php99 at the National Bookstore bin back in 1999. Was actually able to purchase all 7 books in the series by skipping lunch back in college.

For me, the highlight of the bracelet was the Hogwarts crest. Try to spot the Golden Snitch. :D

The trademark Harry Potter lightning insignia at the back of the Hogwarts crest.

Food Review: Mitsuyado Sei-men's Cheese Curry Ramen

Been meaning to visit this place, but it was so far from my usual stomping grounds (case in point: the Ortigas area). But with the boyfriend's good reviews, we decided to go last weekend after my shift.

I decided to order the Cheese Curry Ramen since the name alone has two of my favorite flavors in it. While we're waiting, we decided to have the torikatsu. Mind you, this is not your run-of-the-mill torikatsu where you actually end up eating breading and looking for the actual chicken in your meal.

Their house tea which actually aids digestion.

Sorry kids, it ain't the Ichiraku Ramen. But try to spot the ninja.

Now this time, try to spot Naruto. HEHE. Just kidding.

I like the ambience and the decor because it's not your usual Japanese restaurant drowning in oriental reds and blacks.

They also have conference rooms....

The kitchen where all the magic happens

Plastic smile for the camera... I was really starving and then the boyfriend points the camera at me. LOLZ.

Here we are with the Cheese Curry Ramen. You'd have to smother the noodles with the cheese sauce THEN dip it in the curry sauce. DEE-LISH.

It was so yummy, I ended up ordering another serving of the cheese sauce. Yes, it's THAT awesome.

Boyfriend had to take a smoke break (yep, the meal was that heavy even he had to take a break). So I ended up taking pictures of the family on the table next to us. Their kids are just sooo adorbs!

This kid gives me a look that says "Watchadoin' there, onna?"

GYOZA!!! GLORIOUS GYOZA!!!! It was so heavy, I only ended up eating one piece and the rest had to be packed away on a doggie bag for to go.

Shaved ice for desert. Jiro got the blueberry one, while I got strawberry.

Obligatory cheesy shot.

OOTD: Cardigan, Sheer floral blouse & blue satchel, all from St Francis Square.

I will definitely be back. Or at least go once a month. I'm starting to have Cheese Curry Ramen cravings right now.

Mitsuyado Sei-men is at No. 22 Jupiter Street, Brgy. Bel Air, Makati City, Philippines. They are open 11.00am to 12.00am Monday to Sunday

Weekend Haul

Hi gorgeous girls, gays and boys! How was your week? Mine was less stressful compared to last week's Thanksgiving rush. At least, no more rest day overtime! YAY!

This weekend was spent with the boyfriend, since it's the only time of the week we get to see each other because of our busy schedules. Started out with lunch at Mitsuyado Sei-men, will be posting about that later.

Went to Robinson's Galleria afterwards so we can walk off the heavy meal we had. So... here are some finds.

Cute pair of earrings and aromatherapy candle from  Japan Home.
Php88 each

Much better shot of the earrings

What's in the bag?

A pair of fishnet tights and neutral colored footsocks.
I got the fishnets since I'm getting a pair of Doc Martens when my 13th month pay comes in

From Php395 to Php140, good deal eh?

Inside The Starbucks 2013 Planner

I had been collecting the Starbucks planner since college. Before, you had to consume more than 20 beverages before you can get the planner. So you could just imagine that I was able to get mine by January or mid-February because I was still living on my allowance back then.

Eventually, I stopped collecting for a couple of years because I decided to try the Belle du Jour planner. I was also fortunate to receive the BDJ planner as a birthday gift back then.

Some people say that it's impractical to get this planner since the coffee is quite expensive. To be honest, it goes to charity and at least I did one good deed for the year. HUR HUR.

This year's mechanics state you can get the planner after buying 9 Holiday drinks and 7 Core Beverages. Mostly I got Peppermint Mocha Frappucino for my Holiday Beverages and Lime Cooler with extra shot of mint for the Core Beverage. 17 cups of coffee later, I was able to get my fat grubby paws on the Starbucks 2013 planner.

Let's have a look, shall we?

The last sticker was courtesy of my boss since we had free Starbucks drinks courtesy of the client. Thanks TL Red!

Nice background, eh? Sorry, but I couldn't think of a better background than my bigass pillow and another pillow with doggie pillowcase in my bed.

I got the black planner since, well, I've always been a rockstar wannabe and black is just awesome.

Starbucks planner collectors always know that they always ALWAYS come with a bookmark. The 2013 comes with a magnet bookmark in the shape of their to-go coffee cup. Way better compared to the 2012 "organic" planner, IMHO.

THIS! This is what got me so enthusiastic to get the 2013 promo, to the point that I got it before December 2012 even started. I've always been O.C. when it comes to my to-do lists and schedule, so I like it that the monthly view has actual SPACE to write in!

Weekly view.... much MUCH better compared to the 2012 version. To be honest, it reminds me of the handsome-looking 2008 planner when it comes to the space you get.

And yes, I know I need to get a manicure. This week, I promise. Let me do my laundry first.

The artwork is really adorbs! If you notice on the lower right hand corner of each page, it starts out as a drop of coffee which eventually as you get to the end of the year it becomes a steaming mug of java. Sorry, I'm just a sucker for cutesy kitschy stuff even at the age of 30.

Postcard... see? Very 2008 planner, ain't it?

Coupons... of course. Who doesn't love freebies?

So there you have it. I think the 2013 planner will get more mileage from me this year compared to the 2012 planner which ended up just staying at home after the first quarter of the year because it was so hard writing on a planner that's wood-bound.

Lately, it seems I've got this fixation for scents. Nothing beats coming home from a stressful day at the office to a fresh-smelling room.

In case you're wondering what a perfume packet is. It's a sachet you can leave in your handbag/drawers/closet to avoid nasty smells.

I choose the Gardenia scent at Papemelroti since it smells so fresh. I've also read great reviews on Femalenetwork  about the diffusers they sell at Papemelroti.

No offense to Zen Zest and to their fans (p.s. I love their fragrances),  but the Php250 diffuser set I purchased a couple of weeks ago has already evaporated and lost it's scent. But at least the Zen Zest diffuser oils have pretty bottles, hence I used it for my first try at Papemelroti's Ocean Breeze diffuser.

Post-Birthday Weekend Finds

Hi there!

A lot had happened in the past week. I turned 30 (hey, 30 is the new 18). A good friend got a great job offer, so he had to cut his Philippine holiday short and had to return home to Canada. I had my first Thanksgiving since this is my first US account after working for a UK-based business for 2 years.

Well, in the industry that I work in, Thanksgiving means working overtime even on your weekend off. So, there WERE a lot of calls. And a lot of caffeine consumed on my end in order to maintain a consistent level of energy. Speaking of which.... two more stickers to go and my fat paws are getting themselves the Starbucks 2013 planner! So that's one more Peppermint Mocha Frappucino and one Lime Cooler with extra shot of mint to go.  YAY!

Anyway, here's my weekend haul:

Less Than Php100 Find: Zen Zest Gift Sets

Prior to going home, I dropped by the Zen Zest stall in Robinson's Galleria. I only intended to purchase a couple of reed diffusers for my room at home and for my unit. However, I saw their Christmas gift sets and found out that they were less than a hundred bucks! 2 60ml colognes for 99php. Awesome, right?

I decided to go with the set with Baby Powder (which literally smells like powder) and Day Dream. According to Zen Zest's Facebook page, Day Dream is a blend of lime, dewy rose and jasmine blues.

It's also available for men's fragrances. So.... I guess I'll be buying a few boxes more before December as my emergency presents.

Bottle Cap Pendant from The Body Shop

I know it's really been a long while since I've updated my blog. Well, now that I got another digital camera, I guess this page would come alive again.

Allow me to share my recent favorite purchase. A bottle cap pendant from The Body Shop in SM Megamall. It's only Php175 since it was on sale at 10% off. Love it.
